The Deficit is Not Default of Obama

EXCLUSIVE: The Deficit Is Not Default of Obama, by: Greg Palast, Truthout | News Analysis, Thursday 21 July 2011

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) speaks to the media on Capitol Hill in Washington on July 11, 2011. (Photo: Stephen Crowley / The New York TimesCharles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” gave debtors’ prison a bad rap. Too bad. I’d say that locking away GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor in a penitentiary for deadbeats seems like a darn good idea.

Let’s talk about how we ended up in this pickle, bucking up against the “debt ceiling.” From 2001 to 2008, a Republican president took an annual surplus of $86 billion left for him by Bill Clinton and ran up the budget deficit to over half a trillion in a year ($642 billion in 2008). Altogether, George W. Bush blew up the national debt by over $3 TRILLION – then left the bills to Barack Obama.

For eight years, Bush spent like a drunk monkey. The world was the GOP’s Bergdorf and they had our credit card. If there was a shiny, new war on the shelf, they just had to have it: Iraq, Afghanistan, and let’s not forget the Fantasy Wars, the half a trillion dollars a year on fancy-ass weapons for a war that won’t happen. (Example: the Virginia Class submarine. (The V-class was designed to attack Soviet subs. There are no more Soviet subs, but Bush ordered three dozen [3] anyway – at $1.8 billion each.)

And tax cuts? Don’t get me started!

The Bush administration acted just like Sarah Palin when she was set loose in that Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis – grabbing whatever she could carry because Sarah could put it on someone else’s account.

The GOP’s fattened frat boys feasted – but when the waiter arrived with the bill, the belching rich kids looked around, pointed at some poor schmuck sweeping the floor, Mr. John Q. Veteran, and said, “THAT GUY will pay.”

By the way: Congressman Cantor, the guy leading the Republicans’ refusal to lift the debt ceiling, voted for the V-class sub as well as Bush’s bogus scavenger hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. But now Cantor doesn’t want to pay the bill.

Finally Documents Introduced In The iCloud Service Of New iOS 5 Beta 4

Apple is testing more features before the official release of iOS 5. As promised before, Document on iCloud service has been added in the new iOS 5 Beta 4 release. iTunes, Photos, Contacts, Calendar, Mails and some other features were included to iCloud in the previous Beta versions of iOS. But Documents service has been features in Beta 4, according to

The service is enchanting. You will feel like to be in the circle of iOS devices. Let me explain, if you start working in iWork on iPad and get out in the middle of it. Don’t worry. From that place you can finish it also. You can connect to iWork on your iPad through other iOS devices like iPhone/iPod/Macbook. But that iOS device should be connected to the cloud system having same id.

According to

Apps make it possible to create amazing presentations, write reports, and more right from your iOS device. You don’t have to manage your documents in a complicated file system or remember to save your work. Your documents are just there, stored in your apps, and ready whenever you need them. And now, your apps can store that information in iCloud. Which means you can access your documents — with your latest updates — on whichever device you happen to be using at the time. Even better, this all happens automatically, without any effort from you.

The highly anticipated iOS 5 is expected to be released in this Fall.

Stop Medicaid payments to Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic

Public money shouldn’t fund hateful and medically-unsound ex-gay therapy.

“Public money shouldn’t fund a discriminatory, hateful religious agenda and medically-unsound ex-gay therapy. In light of recent investigations, please take action to immediately stop funding Bachmann and Associates.”

So-called gay conversion therapy has been denounced by the scientific and medical communities as ineffective, and potentially dangerous.

But an investigation earlier this month exposed that this hateful practice is used by the “quality Christian counseling clinic” owned by Michele Bachmann and her husband1 — a clinic which was recently discovered to have received over $137,000 in federal Medicaid funds, in addition to $24,000 in other state and federal funds.2

It’s bad enough that Bachmann and Associates, after denying for years they practiced ex-gay therapy, clearly encourages patients to pray the gay away. Our taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be funding it.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees Medicaid, and the Minnesota Department of Health (DEH), which distributes the funds within the state, should immediately pull public funds from Bachmann’s clinic.

Tell Secretary Sebelius and DEH Commissioner Edward Ehlinger: Stop funding Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic. Click here to automatically sign the petition.

Going to the Bachmann family for counseling is like attending a peace rally hosted by Dick Cheney.

Their views are extreme, hateful and crazy. Michele Bachmann has called homosexuality “a part of Satan,” and “a real issue of sexual dysfunction” while her husband Marcus has called gays “barbarians.”

And even as Michele Bachmann’s family was collecting over $160,000 in Medicaid and other public funds, she was leading Tea Party calls for drastic cuts to the social safety net — especially to Medicaid which she has said swell the “welfare rolls” — and even voted to shut down the government rather than continue funding Planned Parenthood and the Health Care Reform Act.3

Yet when reports broke of the Medicaid payments to her family, Bachmann suddenly became sensitive to discrimination, declaring “it would be discriminatory not to accept Medicaid as a form of payment.”4

It would be stunning to keep funding with public money a clinic that promotes an anti-gay, religious agenda and medically-unsound services. HHS and Minnesota DEH must take a stand now.

Tell Secretary Sebelius and DEH Commissioner Edward Ehlinger: Stop funding Bachmann’s anti-gay clinic. Click here to automatically sign the petition.

Thank you for fighting publicly funded hate.

Judge dismisses Winklevoss case against Facebook

A federal judge has dismissed Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss’ latest attempt to pursue claims that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg stole the idea for the world’s most popular social networking site.

U.S. District Judge Douglas Woodlock in Boston dismissed the case on Friday. The Winklevosses abandoned an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court last month. Instead the Winklevoss twins and their business partner Divya Narendra asked Woodlock for permission to investigate whether Facebook had suppressed instant messages and other evidence during settlement talks.

The Winklevosses’ attorney Tyler Meade said Friday that he expected the ruling and would be submitting a post-judgment motion relying on a federal rule that allows judges to reopen a case if vital information was not produced. So this may not yet end the seven-year legal feud that was featured in the hit movie “The Social Network.”

The Winklevosses could not be reached for comment. Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes declined to comment.

In June, the Winklevosses abandoned an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. They had wanted the nation’s highest court to review the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that upheld the $65-million cash-and-stock settlement they reached in 2008 with Facebook.

Instead they said they would focus on claims in federal court in Boston that Facebook and its lawyers hid instant messages from them during litigation.

The Winklevosses have been trying for years to undo the settlement, alleging that Facebook duped them about the value of the shares they received. They persisted in their efforts even as the value of the settlement soared to more than $200 million along with the valuation of Facebook, one of Silicon Valley’s hottest companies.

10 traits of an analytical thinker

The bottom line

Sure, the analytical thinker can appear to be cold, insensitive, and logical, somewhat akin to the personality of Mr. Spock, but the world needs these attributes. After all, it would take only one analytical lemming to save the others from disaster by telling his friends, “Hey guys, I don’t think this is so good after all.”

Every curse is a blessing in disguise. Because analytical thinkers like information in tabular format, I give you the 10 blessings for the aforementioned curses:
